Palmdale: asphalt roads, potluck, bean salad, Sparky, new
neighbors, line dancing, patio wine tasting. And then there’s the insurance
settlement and hearing aids. Not to mention that infernal inauguration coming
up #puke.
I don’t know what to write about. For some reason walking
around checking things out and looking about I think about wise and witty
things to write about but now that I am here with my keyboard at a comfortable
level with the type enlarged enough so that I can sit a considerable distance
from the screen I can think of nothing to write about. So there you have it.
Yesterday I made a beautiful avocado bean salad from a
recipe that was going around Facebook last week for the potluck. Avocado and Three Bean Salad While I was
making the salad, Don went out to walk around the park to find out the restrictions
we would have on driving once they start paving our road to make sure that he
would be able to get out to go to his appointment with the ENT this morning
regarding possibly repairing his perforated ear drum. He discovered that the
potluck was canceled because of the road construction. Does that even make
sense? Anyway, he was kind of disappointed because he wasn’t very enthusiastic
about the bean salad. I’m always trying to get those old people to eat
something nutritious to go along with the pasta and potatoes that are featured
at our potlucks. I went out looking for him because it was taking so long and I
figured that there might be some interesting road construction out there to watch.
Well, he was on his way back and bemoaning the canceled potluck when we came
across our neighbor, Maxine. Maxine said they were going to cook some chicken
wings and we asked if we shared our bean salad would they share their chicken
wings. That worked out pretty good but we still have a lot of bean salad left.
Now I’m waiting for him to return with news about his ear
drum repair.
We do not have a line dancing leader this year for reasons about which I’m not
entirely clear. I see our former teacher around but he’s not teaching. But,
line dancing is still on the schedule and I show up every Tuesday and Thursday
morning. We started the season with a video tape and that was okay. We then got
a new DVD which works much better and now we also have some printed
instructions from some of the dances that we know from last year. I say “know”
meaning that we are somewhat familiar and if we work at it, we will eventually
be able to put it together. We work at it together and while it isn’t nearly as
enjoyable as having a regular teacher we celebrate our small successes and get
a little workout. We have about 6 or 8 regular people show up. Truman and
Sharon found a waltz that we can do to “Waltz Across Texas” and we’re getting
pretty good at it.
We have new neighbors Melinda and Glen, to the north now
filling up this side of the street. They
are full-timers as well. They spend their summers working at Glacier National
Park and the rest of the year in other places.
I learned that the ear drum repair will take place next
Tuesday during a short 20 minute outpatient surgery and Medicare covers it.
